There are some therapies out there that can
help sciatica, but there is one sciatica therapy
that seems to work the best, other than medically
prescribed physical therapy. Yoga has been
extremely helpful in alleviating sciatica
pain. But this is after you know what is causing
the problem.
Some sciatica patients that have a herniated
disc, but this in only one of the causes.
There are other things like piriformis syndrome,
nerve root compression, and spinal stenosis,
tumors and bone spurs. These can all be causes
of sciatica nerve pain.
It is important that you see a Chiropractor
or an Orthopedic doctor before starting a
yoga class. This way you will also understand
the goals and what they are for. The goal
for a competent Yoga therapist is to reduce
your pain or even eliminate it if possible.
It is not a cure, but a method to manage your
pain. There have been cases where pain has
been eliminated completely, but that is a
wonderful benefit. You may not have immediate
results, but the change may be gradual.
Make sure you find a competent Yoga teacher
that has done sciatica therapy patients and
understands the complications. Check the "track
record" of the yoga therapist. Find out
if they have been doing this for a while and
can work with you successfully and safely.
Let pain be your guide. If you are in pain,
you listen to your body and stop. Do not ever
let anyone to tell you to push through the
pain. You are the only one who knows your
pain threshold.
Be cautious when performing variations of
bending forward or twisting motions. Know
your limit, and if you have a yoga therapist,
he or she should be able to help you learn
what your limits are and find some solutions
to help make your sciatica therapy painless.
Don’t expect immediate results, this is something
that will happen over time and you will grow
stronger and healthier. This is not only going
to strengthen your back muscles, but your
entire body. You will have the muscle strength
and new found energy that you never thought
you had. You will have your life back with
your pain under control or gone.
